Maslenitsa Festival in the Peter and Paul Fortress
End of February 2017
Maslenitsa is one of the favorite holidays of the residents of Saint Petersburg. This year the festivities will traditionally take place at the Peter and Paul Fortress. The programme of the Maslenitsa festival is largely varied: theatrical open-air merrymaking, a concert, craftsmen fair, workshops for children, sporting events, a fire show, even the performing animals show! All the “Great Maslenitsa” festival guests will be able to slide down an ice chute, climb up the Maslenitsa pole, take a ride on a horse, participate in the folk crafts workshops and
keep the self-made souvenirs. If your soul craves, you can sing and dance together with the Cossack and Russian song companies! At the festival you can taste the traditional pancakes and other national dishes, and the local canteens will provide you with hot beverages: tea, mulled wine, and sbiten. The climax of the festivities by the Peter and Paul Fortress walls will be the traditional burning of straw Maslenitsa effigy, a farewell to winter.
