25, Novgorodskaya St.,
191124 St. Petersburg
Russia

In Russia summer is hot season, winter is cold and snowy, spring and autumn are cool. Every season has its charm but certainly the best time to visit our country is summer. In European part of Russia (St. Petersburg, Veliky Novgorod, Moscow and cities of Golden Ring etc.) climate is almost the same everywhere and slightly differs by regions. The climate in our capital, Moscow, is little milder than in St. Petersburg as it is located closer to the continent. St. Petersburg which is also called the Northern capital is a little bit more windy and rainy due to its location closer to the sea, but unlike other cities he only witnesses such a unique natural phenomenon as White Nights.

Summer

Average temperature in summer is (+18 ... +25). The hottest month is July (+21...+26). What is special about St. Petersburg summer is White Nights period which lasts from the late May till the middle of July. During this time sun does not go under the horizon deep enough for the sky to get dark. So it is clear in the evening and night that makes city centre with its rivers, canals and bridges look really magic. And above all that a lot of festivals take place during this time in the city.

Autumn

September and first half of October is the time of beautiful Golden Autumn – a period when leaves get red, purple and yellow like gold. Although autumn is considered to be rainy season, it has its bonuses – famous St. Petersburg suburb park and palace ensembles look really fascinating during this time.

Winter

For brave-hearted exploring this time of the year can be unique experience. Also, note that except New Year holidays wintertime along with late Autumn and early spring is considered to be low season, that is why one can get maximum from trip to Russia with much better price. Winter in Russia is cold (-5...-15, sometimes -20, but usually -10). In the late February (or in the the beginning of March) Russian national folk festival is celebrated – Maslenitsa. It marks the end of winter and accompanied with outdoor performances and pancake feast.

Spring

Best month in spring is May, when it is warm, everything is blossoming and White Nights come closer. In spite of early spring may be cold, March and April is low season so it is good time for those who want to save money. On the 27th of May the St. Petersburg’s City Birthday is celebrated and it is one of the biggest be-ins of the city – definitely has to be visited due to its festivals, performances and great salute.
